Artificially Inseminated queens
Artificial insemination is currently the most reliable way to control the mating of honey bees. No other tool can achieve the same level of control.
Single-drone insemination allows a very sharp selection. The opposite is when several queens are inseminated with mixed semen from drones of the same colony.
In our apiary, we use both techniques to maintain a stable selection of our breeding lines.
Who do we recommend?
Anyone who wants to raise his own queens and wants to start with guaranteed breeding stock.
Open mated queens
Our free-mating queen bees mated in the open air, which means that mating occurs naturally.
Consequently, they inherit the traits of the breeding line only from the maternal side, and we cannot expect breed uniformity from workers from this type of mating.
However, since these queens are the F1 progeny of inseminated queens, thus, they represent full breeding material from the dronal side.
Who do we recommend?
Anyone who does not have time to raise queens, but wants to improve the genetics of their apiary by using F1 from inseminated queens.
